Quite a list isn’t it? And this only scratches the surface.
Personally, I blame the movie ‘Top Gun’ for people wanting to wear mirrored aviator sunglasses. Only kidding! They just look so cool and timeless. Grab an aviator jacket to go with the glasses and YOU instantly become Tom Cruise (ahem!).
Of course there is a lot more that goes into being Tom Cruise which includes things like Scientology and being completely insane for short periods of time, but some guys think that all they need are those mirrored aviator sunglasses and they are all set. There is something about a person that mistakes mirrored aviator sunglasses as being the piece of gear that makes you cool and there is a lot to be said for people that realize that a pair of sunglasses is just one part of being a really cool customer.
Of course as long as movies featuring the sunglasses keep coming out then people will keep thinking it is all they need and all the rest of us can do is hope that the fad passes soon. After all these years I think we are in for a long ride.
Some people like mirrored aviator sunglasses because you cannot see into a person’s eyes when they are wearing them. With most other sunglasses you can still see a person’s eyes even when they are wearing them but with mirrored aviator sunglasses you cannot see the person’s eyes and some of the more mysterious people out there seem to like that a lot. Of course this idea tends to creep most people out and I think that is another thing that some people seem to like about mirrored aviator sunglasses. Let’s face it, some people just like to be creepy and they don’t mind wearing a badge of honor to tell everyone else all about it.
Any Practical Use?
There are practical applications for mirrored aviator sunglasses. They were designed to help pilots keep the sun out of their eyes so they could fly. This is why they were featured in Top Gun. They really were designed to keep the sun out of pilot’s eyes and since a lot of people think fighter pilots are pretty cool then the whole cool thing started. But we already covered that.
You can tell a lot about a person by the sunglasses they wear and there is just something about someone that wears sunglasses that can be considered cool and creepy at the same time. All you need is the 1970’s Hall and Oates mustache and you can consider yourself the ultimate throwback.
I guess the kind of sunglasses you wear says a lot about you. It is possible to look cool AND creepy at the same time, you know. There’s even a danger that you could look like a 1970’s Hall and Oates throwback - just don’t get the moustache!
