It may be cliched, but children really are the future.  As a parent, you will be concerned about all aspects of your kids health and arming yourself with knowledge will help you to provide quality children’s eye care.

When 3-D becomes 2-D

While various type aspects of children’s eye care exist, it begins with vision difficulties. Binocular vision problems can create major vision concerns involving children’s eye care. In fact, these problems affect about 15% of children. Detecting and treating the ailment is vital. In this illness, the eyes fail to function together as a synchronized unit. The result is that the eyes partially (or completely) cannot see objects in three dimensions. Approximately 12% of all Americans suffer from this visual handicap.  Examples include, “wall eyes, “lazy eyes” and “wandering eyes.”

Four Eyes Are Better Than Two

While some children have severe eye problems and require special children’s eye care, the majority of children simply need eyewear. When purchasing these items, you should consider certain factors. They should be made of metals that are sturdy and bendable, due to the active behavior of children. To protect the eyeglasses from flying off the child’s head, select a pair with cable temples that can be wrapped around the perimeter of the ear. However, the eyeglasses should simultaneously be lightweight, so an excess of pressure is not placed on the nose. Lastly, when providing children’s eye care for your child remember that children like brilliant colors, so select frames that have this quality.

Playing It Safe

Children, like adults, need to be fitted for prescription glasses, but it is a common procedure. Here’s a thought: about nine out of ten children’s eye damages can be prevented. Quite a statistic, isn’t it? These injuries typically happen during recreational or sporting engagements. Ways to avoid eye injuries among children (and the need for additional children’s eye care) include:

1. Storing all chemicals and sprays where children cannot access them.

2. When children play in sports or activities, ask them to wear special eyewear that protects their eyes.

3. Never let children play with fireworks, darts, BB guns, etc.

4. Choose toys and games that are suitable for a child’s age group.

5. To prevent your child’s need for specialized children’s eye care, watch children when they work with objects that are pointed or contain glass (i.e. scissors, pencils, pens, etc.)

So, children are the future, eh? If so, give them the finest children’s eye care that you can.
